Caterpillars & Butterflies!

While our caterpillars continue to eat and eat, they will start to get bigger and bigger. I wonder what will happen next?

BUTTERFLY OBSERVATION JOURNAL

So we thought it would be fun for you to be like a scientist and do some observations of the caterpillars/butterflies that we have. We are going to be making our own butterfly observation journals.

MY BUTTERFLY JOURNAL

  1. The first step is to find a piece of paper to use as the front cover of your journal. The title that you can write is MY BUTTERFLY JOURNAL, along with your name.
  2. Next, find a white piece of paper, to use as the first page of the journal.
  3. It’s time to have a really good look at the caterpillars in the cup.
What do they look like? Are they different colors? How many do you see? What is at the bottom of the cup? Once you’ve had a really good look, you can start to draw exactly what you see – even the cup!
  1. After doing your observation you can write the word CATERPILLAR somewhere on the page. If you want to write more, you can write CUP, FOOD.(Words to copy are attached.) This is going to be the first page of your journal. We will be adding more pages to our journal as the caterpillars continue to grow and move. So make sure to put these 2 pages somewhere safe, so we can add more pages later.

MAKE YOUR OWN CATERPILLARS AND BUTTERFLIES

Maybe you can make your own caterpillars and butterflies by using different objects around the house. You can use any kind of materials or toys – blocks, art, playdough, chalk, legos etc

DANCE AND MOVE LIKE A CATERPILLAR AND BUTTERFLY

Can you put on some music – inside or outside your house, and move around like a butterfly or a caterpillar. Do they move differently? What color caterpillar or butterfly are you? Can you munch on a leaf like a caterpillar?

JOURNAL PAGE ENTRY

Maybe you can draw and write in your other journal. If I was a caterpillar or butterfly what would my name be and where would I live?

BEAUTIFUL RAINFOREST BUTTERFLIES

Check out this amazing video of tropical butterflies in the Rainforest. I was so amazed looking at the bright colors and how different the butterflies were. I have never seen any butterflies around here that look like these ones. They are very unique. The one that I was so amazed by was the one that had see-through wings!
